Born in North Carolina, Kathy grew up along the East Coast, eventually settling in Mt. Olive, NC, after her father’s service in the U.S. Navy. Her professional journey began as a self-taught bookkeeper and accountant while raising two daughters. In 1979, Kathy joined the United States Air Force, embarking on a 15-year career as a Financial Management Technician and Supervisor. Her service included extensive assignments throughout Europe, where she earned multiple accolades, including the prestigious Joint Services Commendation Medal for her leadership during Operation Provide Comfort after Desert Storm, supporting Kurdish resettlement efforts in Northern Iraq.

Upon retiring from the Air Force in 1995, Kathy transitioned to the private sector, joining her husband’s business and officially launching her tax career by earning her Enrolled Agent (EA) designation. After selling the family business in 2012, she and her husband retired to Belize, where they spent five years before relocating to Phoenix, Arizona, and ultimately returning to North Carolina in 2021.

Kathy’s commitment to lifelong learning and service led her to re-enter the tax profession, re-establishing her practice, Summit Tax Services, LLC, and renewing her EA credentials. Throughout her career, she has taught tax courses nationwide, delivering continuing education to CPAs, attorneys, Certified Financial Planners, and fellow Enrolled Agents. Today, Kathy is dedicated to educating retirees and “pre-tirees”, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary for a successful retirement. Kathy’s career reflects her unwavering dedication to service, education, and the financial well-being of her clients and students.
